Beneath Two Skies
Beneath Two Skies explores the linguistic connections between cultures through parallel idioms expressions that exist in both Farsi and English with similar meanings. Idioms reflect the nuances of language, offering insight into how different cultures express shared human experiences.
In this immersive installation, the English idioms are reversed and attached to mirrored surfaces, disrupting direct readability. Viewers must use a flashlight to reveal the text, which projects onto surrounding walls, the ceiling, and the floor. The Farsi translations installed on the walls, merge with the reflected English text, creating a layered interplay of language, shadow, and light.
This interaction highlights the interconnectedness of languages and the potential for
understanding beyond words. By engaging with Beneath Two Skies, viewers are invited to reflect on the beauty of linguistic complexity, the impact of language on perception, and the shared experiences that unite us across cultures.
