Interwoven

Relocating to a new country marks the beginning of a transformative journey—one that involves encountering a new culture while carrying the essence of one’s own. As individuals enter this new environment, they bring with them elements of their heritage—music, cuisine, fashion, religion, and more—gradually blending into the host culture and enriching it. However, complete immersion is rarely achieved, as deep-rooted connections to one’s homeland, traditions, and identity remain ever-present.

In this installation, I use a geometric shape borrowed from my cultural heritage, constructed with string to illustrate the tension between transformation and continuity. While parts of the form appear to break apart or melt away, its core remains intact—anchored by works that represent homeland, culture, and identity in both Farsi and English. This visual metaphor reflects the immigrant experience: an evolving, shifting presence in a new culture, yet deeply rooted in the foundations of one’s origins. Through this work, I seek to visualize the complexity of cultural integration, where adaptation and preservation coexist.
