Melting Boundaries
Inspired by the concept of the ‘melting pot,’ this piece explores the complexities of cultural integration and the transformation of identity. At its core, a geometric shape drawn from my cultural heritage slowly melts downward, symbolizing the gradual fusion of my roots with the new environment I now inhabit. The flexible mirror is a key element in this work, offering a reflection that is not immediately clear, but only visible when one approaches closely. To me, this mirrors the concept of the future—something that cannot be fully understood or anticipated until it is experienced in real time.
When I stand in front of a mirror, I often reflect deeply on my journey of immigration—on the challenges of adaptation, the evolving nature of my identity, and the uncertainties that the future holds. In this piece, I wanted to make the viewer an active participant, inviting them to engage with the work and see themselves reflected in it. Just as I am reshaped by my experiences, I wanted the viewers to confront the mirror and, in doing so, reflect on their own transformation, uncertainties, and the unknowns of their personal journeys.
By using the mirror as a symbol, I aim to emphasize that identity, much like the reflection in the mirror, is fluid and ever-changing. The piece ultimately becomes a metaphor for the passage of time, the process of adaptation, and the ongoing search for belonging—a journey that each person must navigate in their own way, with all its uncertainties and revelations.
